The Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS) 2026 provided a valuable platform for reflection, learning, and collaboration. Held from 22nd–24th July 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria under the theme “Financing for Development: Building Resilience and Transforming Emerging Economies,” the summit convened policymakers, development practitioners, investors, innovators, civil society organizations, and changemakers from across Africa to exchange ideas, forge partnerships, and explore practical solutions for accelerating sustainable development.
Beyond the inspiring conversations and networking opportunities, the summit provided an opportunity to reflect on how we design, implement, and measure our work within communities. As we listened to diverse experiences from across the continent, we realized that many of the principles being championed are already embedded in the way Tuungane CBO delivers its programs.
One of the strongest messages from the summit was the importance of localization. Sustainable development is most effective when solutions are designed with communities rather than for communities. Investing in local leadership, local knowledge, and community ownership creates interventions that are more relevant, sustainable, and impactful. This reaffirmed our belief that lasting change begins by listening to communities and supporting them to lead their own development journeys.
The summit also reinforced the value of collaboration. The complex challenges facing our communities cannot be addressed by one organization alone. Meaningful partnerships between government, civil society, development partners, the private sector, and communities are essential for mobilizing resources, sharing expertise, and delivering sustainable solutions. This validates our collaborative approach, which places partnership at the center of every program we implement.
Another key takeaway was the need to focus on impact rather than activities. Success is no longer measured by the number of trainings conducted or meetings held, but by the positive and measurable changes experienced by individuals and communities. Equally important is designing programs that are simple, practical, measurable, and accountable. Clear objectives, realistic implementation strategies, and strong accountability mechanisms enable organizations to learn, adapt, and communicate results more effectively.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of flexibility in development programming. Communities are constantly evolving, and organizations must remain responsive to emerging needs while staying focused on long-term goals. Defining both the “what” and the “how” of every intervention provides clarity for implementation, strengthens teamwork, and ensures that partners remain aligned around a common vision.
Finally, the summit emphasized the importance of evidence-based programming. Data should not only be collected for reporting purposes but should actively inform decision-making, improve programme quality, and demonstrate meaningful outcomes. Outcome-based reporting enables organizations to move beyond documenting activities and instead tell the story of the real difference their work is making in people’s lives. This approach strengthens accountability, builds trust with partners and communities, and creates opportunities for continuous learning and improvement.
The Africa Social Impact Summit reminded us that sustainable development goes beyond delivering projects. It is about creating meaningful, measurable, and lasting change. The summit served as both a validation of our community-led approach and an inspiration to continue strengthening our programs through collaboration, innovation, accountability, and evidence-driven action.
