When the Pitch Becomes a Classroom!!

At Tuungane CBO, we believe that education is not something done to young people, but something built with them. This belief came to life in Msumarini Community Field in Kikambala -Kilifi South Sub-County as we partnered with Young Life Africa Kilifi Region to organize a community activation in commemoration of the International Day of Education, under the global theme The Power of Youth in Co Creating Education.

The activation brought together children and young people in a safe, vibrant space where learning, play, and mentorship blended seamlessly. Through football activities, fun games, and interactive mentorship sessions, youth mentors from Tuungane CBO and Young Life Africa engaged participants in meaningful experiences designed to inspire both personal growth and collective responsibility.

The football field became more than a place to play. It transformed into a learning space where teamwork, discipline, communication, leadership, and resilience were practiced in real time. Each game and activity was intentionally designed to equip participants with essential life skills while reinforcing the idea that education extends beyond books and classrooms.

Alongside the physical activities, participants took part in group mentorship discussions on quality education. These conversations created room for young people to reflect on what quality education means in their own lives and communities, the barriers they face, and the role they can play in ensuring education is inclusive, relevant, and empowering for all.

A key highlight of the day was witnessing young people confidently share their thoughts, ideas, and aspirations. Rather than being passive recipients, they were encouraged to see themselves as active contributors and co- creators of their learning journey. Mentors emphasized the importance of ownership, positive decision making, peer support, and community involvement in achieving meaningful education outcomes.

We are deeply grateful to Young Life Africa Kilifi Region for the partnership and shared vision that made this community activation possible. Their commitment to youth mentorship and holistic development strengthened the impact of the day and reaffirmed the power of collaboration in advancing education.

As we reflect on this activation, one message stands out clearly: when youth are given space, guidance, and trust, education becomes transformative. Tuungane CBO remains committed to creating platforms where young people can learn, lead, and thrive through sport, mentorship, and community engagement.

Together, we continue to champion quality education by placing youth at the heart of the solution.
