Celebrating Educators Who Inspire Collaboration and Change on World Teachers Day

Every October 5th, the world pauses to celebrate teachers; the mentors, guides, and visionaries who dedicate their lives to shaping minds and nurturing dreams. This year’s theme, “Recasting teaching as a collaborative profession,” invites us to reflect on the power of teamwork in education and community development.

At Tuungane CBO, we believe that teaching extends far beyond the classroom walls. It lives in every space where knowledge is shared and character is built on the football pitch, during mentorship sessions, and through community engagements that spark curiosity and inspire growth.

Education, for us, is a collective effort. It’s the teacher leading a class with dedication, the coach fostering teamwork and discipline, the community volunteer guiding children in life skills, and the parent encouraging a child to keep learning. Together, these educators form a powerful network of changemakers nurturing the potential of young people across our communities.

Over the years, Tuungane CBO has been privileged to collaborate with passionate educators and schools that share our vision for holistic learning including Msumarini Primary School, Msumarini Secondary School, Kiwandani Primary School, Kibaoni Primary School, and Korosho Secondary School within Kilifi South and Kilifi North Sub-Counties. Through these partnerships, we’ve promoted life skills education, mentorship, sports for development, and youth leadership — creating environments where learning is active, inclusive, and transformative.

Diana Abucheli, our Head of Partnerships at Tuungane CBO and a teacher by profession shares:

“This day reminds me of the lessons I’ve learnt as a teacher. Going to college and getting that certificate is not enough. The things we handle on the ground require patience, passion, love, wisdom, and emotional intelligence. Teaching is like parenting; we grow, learn, and mature on the job. We wear many hats; a parent, a friend, a mentor, a counsellor, a disciplinarian, and many more. To my fellow teachers: you are great people, you are blessed. Only God can pay us for the work we do!”

Her words echo the essence of this year’s theme, that teaching thrives through collaboration, compassion, and shared purpose.

As we mark World Teachers’ Day 2025, Tuungane CBO celebrates every educator in schools, on the fields, and within our communities for your tireless commitment, creativity, and heart. You remind us daily that teaching is not a solo act but a shared mission shaping brighter futures.

Happy World Teachers’ Day 2025!
