Every 21st of September, the world pauses to commemorate the International Day of Peace, a day established by the United Nations to reaffirm our shared commitment to peace, non-violence, and understanding. This day reminds us that peace is not just about the absence of conflict — it’s about justice, inclusion, and collective action.
This year’s theme, “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” underscores the urgency of translating peace into action. In a world facing political tensions, social divisions, and injustice, the call is clear: all of us have a role to play; through our words, deeds, relationships, and institutions in cultivating peace in our communities.
On the sandy shores of Kwale County, we joined that global call by celebrating peace through sport during the FKF Kwale County Branch Beach Soccer Finals, sponsored by Kentaste Products. It was a day of fierce competition, but also of unity, respect, and shared purpose. Mwanambeyu Girls and Diani Stars emerged as champions for the ladies and men’s categories respectively, inspiring us all with their determination and spirit.
Sport and art have long been our tools of transformation. Across Kilifi County, we weave together tournaments, creative workshops, and community dialogue to nurture peaceful coexistence, inclusion, and youth leadership. These aren’t just events, they are spaces where young people from different backgrounds interact, learn, and build trust.
The beach soccer pitch became a stage for values in action: fair play, teamwork, respect, empathy. When young people learn to compete respectfully, uphold rules, and celebrate differences, they take those lessons into homes, schools, and neighborhoods.
Now more than ever, we call upon sports stakeholders such as the federations, county governments, clubs, sponsors, and community leaders to rally behind beach soccer as a force for peace and youth empowerment. Your investment, advocacy, and support can extend opportunities, scale impact, and ensure that these platforms reach even deeper into communities across the Coast.
Let us join hands, playing not just for goals, but for unity, hope, and a more peaceful tomorrow.
